Importance Of Properly Fitting Dentures

Dentures that don’t fit properly can cause more serious problems.

Gums and tissue can be damaged by dentures that haven’t been fitted properly to your mouth and bite. Your oral health can also be compromised, which can lead to other more serious health problems.

Proper fitting dentures enhance your appearance and improve chewing ability. They also serve an important role in supporting the muscles in your face and jaw and the jaw joints.

Types of Dentures

Complete Dentures

A complete denture replaces all teeth in either the upper or lower arch. A partial denture replaces missing teeth when there are only some missing.

Partial Dentures

A partial denture connected to remaining natural can help keep those from shifting and misaligning the bite and jaw. An implant may be placed in certain areas to help where there are no natural tooth.

How Are Dentures Supported?

A Denture can be removable by the patient, screwed in and removable only by a dentist, or bonded in so it stayes in the mouth. A denture can be supported completely by the gum tissue (and whatever bone remains underneath the gum), or it can be supported by remaining natural teeth, or by implants.
