Metal free tooth fillings
It’s your health…
Like good wine, dentistry has improved over the years. Okay, well, maybe they’re not quite the same.
Most of us have practiced good oral health since we were children. Going to the dentist twice a year, getting our cavities filled and having a thorough cleaning done. But those old fillings could be impacting your health.
Dentists know that the old style metal fillings could be better. And you know they’re unattractive – but did you know “silver” fillings are actually more than 50% mercury? As if it’s not enough that mercury is one of the most toxic substances known to humankind…mercury fillings damage and weaken the teeth they are supposed to be protecting.
Just like thermometers rise and fall, mercury fillings expand and contract with temperature changes. Hot foods and drinks lead to expansion cracks in the surrounding tooth structure and gaps form around cold fillings. Bacteria can then accumulate within the cracks and gaps, and the result is tooth decay and possibly gum disease. Fortunately, this process is almost never painful. But it’s not true that what you don’t know won’t hurt you.
